Butler County Government Data Breach

A few days ago, Butler County made an announcement of a breach of the county computer network. Apparently, the breach happened on October 2nd, and they hid the information from the public till now. This is unacceptable behavior by county officials. Waiting almost four months is waiting four months too long. And what about our state rep who claims she is a Cyber Security expert. We have heard a word from her. The security and privacy of our information are in the hands of people who obviously are better at hiding this from the public rather than securing our IT infrastructure. I spent more than 25 years in the IT field proactively preventing just such occurrences. There needs to be a public hearing involving the county and the IT director to explain why this happened and why county officials waited to inform the public.
