On Monday May the 27th I will celebrate two things that are important in my life. My Daughter was born on that day and every few years it coincided with Memorial day. This is one of those years. I honor her as my daughter and mother of my grandchildren. She is married to a retired soldier, Joe, who served in the war zones. Being a soldier and serving your country as well as being a family man is a difficult way of life. But Joe made it work and so did my daughter. I spent 20 years on active duty myself. I am all too familiar with the bumps in the road. I never look back with any regret serving my country. On this Memorial day, I will remember those who fought and gave the ultimate sacrifice to their country. I salute every person who has ever served, no matter the branch, no matter the race, the sex or religion.
For the record. My grandfather served in WW II and Korea. My brother Steven served in the NAVY for 20 years. My father and my uncle both served in the US Army. I am proud of all of them.
